Cabin Fever

Its all starting to feel a bit like Groundhog Day.  My Cabin Fever has been made worse by the fact I can't walk very far at the moment or stand for long periods of time. I have bought some foot supports for my trainers but there is no quick fix other than for rest.

Before I get up most mornings I scan the news headlines in the various papers and have a quick read. Of course most of the headlines this morning were to do with COVIDIOTS as a result of the warm weather. Officers in Devon said Parking Wardens ran out of tickets as people from all over descended on their beaches, parking illegally and blocking footpaths completely.

People lay cheek to cheek on packed sun filled sands while others sipped beer brought to them by  a waitress wearing a PPE face shield and gloves. Queues formed outside stalls serving ice-cream and drinks. I  don't want to be a party pooper but has the sunshine made people forget what is happening in the UK? Has safe distancing hit the scrap heap? Where are all these people going to the toilet I ask myself, after all there are no public toilets open. Outings for any household at the moment can only last as long as your bladder! Of course anyone on the beach can walk into the sea for a wee as it eventually ends up there anyway. But what about all the others, where are they urinating? Will this spread the disease?

Rant over. I bought some compost from Aldi a while ago and it was useless. Most of the seedlings came up but their growth stunted before they eventually died. So I've had to do a quick start on lots of things by putting the seeds in damp tissue. Its almost always successful. One they rooted they went into trays with better compost. My toms are behind but I'll just have to purchase a couple of mature plants for an earlier crop. Everything else isn't to bad and I'm really pleased with the beetroot, my favorite crop. I looking to get some stuff in the ground at the weekend.  It will have to be protected against birds and of course BERTIE!

Boy it was hot yesterday, what a day to work  in the garden! Mad dogs and Englishmen. I filled a storage box with cold water and I rested my weary foot every now and then, and it was heaven. We did have a lunchtime siesta.

Bertie also had a dip to cool him off. He will have to be clipped very short now the weather is getting warmer. The windows and doors were been open wide all day and the blinds drawn but it was still very warm last night. I think I may have to change to the summer 4 tog duvet sooner rather than later.
We are off to our daughters shortly, she isn't home but we are taking delivery of a skip that we are also using. The local tip opened this week but its chaos apparently. So we will go with our trailer fully laden and put it in the skip along with the pile of rubbish on her front lawn. Back shortly with a progress report on the garden. Tx

  1. We have trimmed Ruby’s long hair under her tummy and the feathers on her legs. She had a shower with a little dog shampoo and is less itchy. Normally a bathe in the sea helps but we aren’t yet ready to face the hoards.

    1. The trimmers will be set on number one. For back and tummy. But his jet hair and muzzlepuff will be kept longer. If we go to the beach anytime soon it will be a dust when everyone has gone home.

  3. I live at the coast and while I didn't venture to the beach yesterday I have seen lots of pictures of how busy it was - and the rubbish left behind.

    1. I'm not against the beach being used just be sensible. If its packed move on. I can only imagine the rubbish and other unsavoury things being left behind!

  4. The lady interviewed on the beach made me laugh when she said she didn't think it would be so busy. As if she were the only person who could possibly have had the idea to drive to the seaside. I think using the beach is fine if you live by one but I wouldn't choose to drive anywhere like that at the moment. Looks like Boris will naturally get the herd immunity that he wanted right at the beginning.

Both our dogs are due to be groomed next month. The groomers come to the house so I've no idea what we'll do about that. Wendy would probably let me have a go but Sparky is a different kettle of fish altogether. xx

    1. I Know the clip you are talking about. She had driven 2 hours to get to the beach! I'm afraid the Covidiots and financiers are winning now. And we are left just doing what's right for us.

    1. Thank you, I do too as I feel lazy and lethargic because I'm not getting out and about like I normally do.

  6. I saw those articles about people crowding onto the beaches. What gets me though is no matter how much I might want to go to the beach I couldn't stand to be around all those people - that's why I would never go in July/August. Being around those kinds of crowds just isn't worth it - and anyway I seem to have the bladder capacity of a slug so that's a definite non-starter!

    1. The minute I know there is no loo available I want to go. Its psychological but I can't help it. I don't do packed beaches when I'm abroad, I'm certainly not doing it here.

  7. The council closed the car parks at council run parks here when lockdown came into force but they were opened again last week. We visited Temple Newsam and it was packed, the thing that really annoys me though is that families are out together, blatantly ignoring rules about seeing one person from another family at a two metre distance. My neighbours who are in their seventies haven't let lockdown stop them at all, they get more visits these days from their family than they did pre lockdown, and they all sit side by side in the garden enjoying food together. The over seventies are the vulnerable ones who we're trying to protect but many are not bothering trying to look after themselves. I sowed my tomato seeds late this year and the plants are still only small, I think it will be a late harvest this year.

    1. I'm hoping my tomatoes get a spurt on. I agree some people haven't changed their outlook at all. My neighbour over the road had prostrate cancer before christmas and he's blatantly had visitor. I find myself looking at peoples nails and hair because some are clearly still having their beauty treatments.

  8. I've not seen any pictures of crowded beaches, probably because I'm limiting the amount of news programmes I'm watching, but it's such a concern isn't it. Much as I'd love to go to the sea just now, I'm going to stay put for the time being. X

    1. It's the interlopers coming from miles to visit the beach that's upsetting people mainly because of the lack of care and understanding. I don't blame you for avoiding the news. I'm getting to the point of nor believing anything now!
